Happy 4th Of July From Santa Barbara Dental Spa

By BK Rai in Santa Barbara Dental News

Dear Friends,

Happy 4th of July from Santa Barbara Dental Spa!

The entire team is getting excited now for the celebrations on July 4th. With all of the parties that are going to spring up all over town, even we might be hard pressed to keep our oral habits as healthy as usual!

When our Founding Fathers signed the declaration of independence back in 1776, you can bet that they did so with huge smiles from ear to ear. This July 4th, we want you to be able to do the same: to smile with an easy confidence knowing that your teeth are white, your gums are healthy and your skin is glowing. At our Dental Spa, we can make all of that happen. To give you an idea of just what we can do to make you the envy of every Independence Day party, check out the brief list below.

Services That We Offer
-Advanced zoom whitening
-Teeth cleaning
-Oral surgery
-Porcelain veneers
-Crowns, bridges, implants and more

On top of all that, we offer periodontal, root canal and TMJ therapy. We can even screen for oral cancer. When it comes to your dental treatment, there’s nothing we can’t do to help you out.

Don’t forget that seeing the dentist isn’t just about reactive action: be preventative and give us a call just to book your routine check-up. The best results are always born from early detection, so pick up the phone and arrange to let us get to work.

Since we’re celebrating July 4th – and the origins of our free and prosperous nation – we thought we’d take you down history lane and examine the growth of spa dentistry over the years.

Where Did It All Begin?

As far back as the ancient Greeks and Chinese, a plethora of different salts, incenses and alcohols have been used in the absence of real anesthetics to put the mind at ease during cleaning or removal of teeth. While these crude methods have never been validated, and likely did nothing at all to slow the pulsating heart rate of any patients, they had the right idea.

Spa Dentistry was first coined in the 18th century (around the same time as the much more crude “barber surgeon”) in England, where patients were offered skin and body care treatments alongside their dental work. The practice lay fairly dormant throughout the 18th century and it wasn’t until the late 1900’s that the idea really took off. Today, it is estimated that perhaps as many as one in twenty dentists offer “to some extent, some spa dentistry services to their patients.”

We all know the stories of little kids being terrified of the dentist, and how we lull them in to relaxation through candy, promises of going to the movies and so on. The fact is, 40-50 million people in the US suffer from dental anxiety and spa dentistry could be considered a modern adult-bribe; we set the adult mind as ease and help them want to visit the dentist.

This is the best dentist in Santa Barbara!! I am genetically prone to cavities, so I've had my fair share of dentists. In fact, I used to be terrified of them, but Dr. Rai is so pleasant I actually don't mind going to the dentist anymore. He is always asking how I'm doing (like every 5 minutes), and he never makes me feel like a horrible person if I forgot to floss. They have a massage chair, and a TV that you control that sits right in front of your face to keep you distracted. I've also had my wisdom teeth removed by him, and I had NO swelling. I also never feel like he's trying to make extra money off me and pressure me into something I don't need. Seriously, this guy is the best. If he takes your insurance, then I wouldn't go anywhere else.
